Biocatalysis research group profile

j woodley2The biocatalysis group at DTU is based in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and is therefore particularly focused on process design, development and implementation. He is a Fellow of Institution of Chemical Engineering (FIChemE) and the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng). Amongst other awards, he was a joint recipient of the Rita and John Cornforth Prize (RSC) in 2010.

Research topics include multi-step biocatalysis, downstream processing, modelling tools for assessment of biocatalytic processes and bio-oxidations. Enzymes currently under investigation include carbohydrate oxidases, monoamine oxidases, cytochrome P450s, lipases, glucose isomerases and ω-transaminases. The group has many international industry and academic collaborations. Recent research projects include P4FIFTY (EC-FP7 MC-ITN), KYROBIO (EC-FP7), INTERACT (EC-FP7), BIOOX (EC-FP7), and the coordinator of BIOINTENSE (EC-FP7).
